Active service revenue now opens to the engagements behind it

The Active service revenue card on your dashboard states the contracted value of every engagement you have accepted and not yet settled or ended. Until now, clicking it told you what the figure meant but not what was in it. It now opens onto the order book itself.

What you can see

  • The figure and five readings of it — how many engagements are in flight, how long the oldest has been running, how much has been delivered but not yet settled, how much is still to deliver, and how many are past their due date and what they are worth.
  • How it is worked out — what is counted in, what is taken out, what value is used and how to read the result. It is the same definition the KPI dictionary gives, so the two can never say different things.
  • Every engagement in the balance — reference, engagement, customer, owner, status, when it was accepted, how old it is, when it is due, and its contracted, delivered and remaining value. The table adds up to the figure above it and says so. Anything past its due date is flagged, and a row opens the engagement itself.
  • What moved the balance — the balance at the start of your selected range, what was accepted, what settled, what ended or was cancelled, and what was re-priced while in flight, each one listed down to the engagements behind it.

Narrow the list by status or by age, search for an engagement or a customer, and sort by any column; the totals underneath restate themselves for whatever you are looking at. Changing the range moves the opening balance and the movements. The figure itself, its five readings and the list of engagements are always as at now, because the balance is a running total rather than a total for a period.

One change to the figure itself

Where an approved variation has changed the value of work already under way, that change now counts towards the figure. Previously only the value first agreed was counted, so a piece of work whose scope had been formally added to or reduced was reported at a price neither side had been working to since. The engagements counted are exactly the same as before — what has changed is what they are worth. If your book carries approved variations, expect the figure to differ from the one you saw last week.

Engagements priced outside your reporting currency are left out of every total, and the number left out is stated beside the figure rather than converted at a rate nobody agreed.
